The hallmark features of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) include pathological aggregation of extracellular plaques, composed of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides, and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles, composed of hyperphosphorylated tau (p-tau) protein2, which lead to neuron death. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
