In a recent screening searching for harmine analogs with ability to inhibit DYRK1A in neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cells, harmol was identified as an inhibitor of DYRK1A with low effectiveness against the monoamine oxidase MAO-A (but its effects on the MAO-B isoform was not tested)39. The gene discussed is DYRK1A; the disease is glioblastoma.
