NF1 and neurofibromatosis type 1: The NF1 protein acts as a positive regulator of cAMP/PKA signaling by stimulating adenylyl cyclase activity (Guo et al., 2000; Tong et al., 2002), and genetic or pharmacological stimulation of this pathway rescues anatomic and behavioral phenotypes in both fly and mouse models of neurofibromatosis type 1 (Guo et al., 2000; Tsai et al., 2012; Diggs-Andrews et al., 2013; Sutton et al., 2019).
