The observation that the naïve T cell compartment exhibited higher CD38 expression compared to its effector counterparts might have significant clinical implications since CD38 monoclonal antibody is used to treat patients with multiple myeloma via antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity and is currently being investigated in clinical trials for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (8, 10). The gene discussed is CD38; the disease is B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
