Following a multitarget drug discovery strategy based on the drug repositioning approach (derivatization of old anti-AD drugs), we recently developed and studied two series of hybrid compounds by conjugating two AChE inhibitors (tacrine and donepezil pharmacophore) with the hydroxyphenylbenzimidazole (BIM) moiety as potential drug candidates for AD. The gene discussed is ACHE; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
