To accomplish our main objective, we propose the following specific aims: (i) to analyze the serum levels of irisin and its genetic variability in cases with and without atheroma undergoing BS, (ii) to evaluate the association between irisin levels and the biochemical parameters involved in atherosclerosis, and (iii) to assess the usefulness of irisin as a biomarker of subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with SO undergoing BS. The gene discussed is FNDC5; the disease is atherosclerosis.
