The flavonoid-rich extract of S. comosa inflorescences at concentrations of 100 and 200 mg/kg also suppressed hepatic fibrosis in Wistar rats pre-treated with CCl4; the extract inhibited the level of biochemical parameters in blood serum (ALT, AST, ALP, and hyaluronic acid), the markers of liver fibrosis (laminin, amino-terminal propeptide of type III procollagen (PIIINP), collagen IV, collagen deposition in the liver tissues), and expression of α-SMA, collagen I, and fibronectin [47]. This evidence concerns the gene FN1 and Hepatic fibrosis.
