The previously mentioned study by Tasaka and colleagues found that the presence of emphysema in patients with fibrosis is associated with decreased levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and increased C-reactive protein (CRP) in serum, whereas there were no significant differences in the amount of ILD biomarkers’ surfactant protein (SP)-D and Krebs von den Lungen (KL)-6 [22]. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is pulmonary emphysema.
