CXCL8 and cancer: The expression of pro‐angiogenetic factors, including transforming growth factor β, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), platelet‐derived growth factor and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) mediate angiogenesis37 by increasing the vascular leakiness, which attract pro‐tumorigenic chemokines to the site, such as CXCL8 (also referred to as IL‐8) and CXCL2, thereby promoting cancer cell invasion.
