The HLA-A, -B, -C, and -DRB1 were genotyped in 375 unrelated HTLV-1-infected individuals divided into asymptomatic carriers (AC) (n = 165) and HAM/TSP (n = 210) in a longitudinal cohort from 8 to 22 years of follow-up. This evidence concerns the gene HLA-A and tropical spastic paraparesis.
