Interestingly, the levels of caspase-1 (median = 33.50 pg/mL) and the adaptor protein ASC (median = 985 pg/mL) were even higher in the recovered patients than in patients with an active infection (4.92 and 498 pg/mL, respectively), whereas the levels of caspase-1 (0.89 pg/mL) and ASC (226 pg/mL) in healthy controls were lower than in the two other groups. Here, CASP1 is linked to infection.
