Benachour and Séralini (2009) showed that in vitro pure Gly treatment caused apoptosis via caspase (cas)-3 and -7 activation, already after 6 h, in three different human cell lines. Gly-dependent increase in cas-3, -8 and -9 activity was also recently confirmed in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (hPBMCs) (Kwiatkowska et al., 2020). Moreover, in a neuroblastoma cell line (SHSY-5Y), 5 mM Gly treatment altered the expression of different apoptosis-related genes such as BAX, BCL2, CASP3 and CASP9 (Martínez et al., 2020). Here, CASP3 is linked to neuroblastoma.
