Among cancer genomes with a balanced chromothripsis event, 102 out of 119 (around 86%) disrupted at least one gene and 23 (about 19%) had chromosome breakpoints in putative cancer-driver genes, including the tumour suppressors FOXO3, ARID2 and PTEN (Extended Data Fig. 10e,g; a complete list is provided in Supplementary Table 1). This evidence concerns the gene PTEN and cancer.
