The overlap of trans-eQTLs for these putative core genes with regions in which SNP associations with T1D have been reported suggests that some SNP associations that have no obvious interpretation in terms of cis-effects, such as the association of T1D with SNPs in the PLEKHH2 and NSF regions, may be explicable as trans-effects on the expression of core genes. This evidence concerns the gene PLEKHH2 and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
