Recently, the genome-wide association studies in schizophrenia have implicated various glutamate receptors and downstream calcium signaling pathways in this illness––such as GRM3[38], GRIN2A[39], GRIA1[40] and CACNA1C[41, 42] involved in the functional regulation of metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluR), NMDA receptors, AMPA receptors, and VGCC.
