UCP2 and cancer: Given its manifold functions in cellular homeostasis,KAT8 dysregulationis linked to the onset and progression of cancer.1 Early studies indicated that siRNA-mediated KAT8 silencingin HeLa cells led to downregulation of different oncogenes such asHOXA9, UCP2, KIAA0657, and HIP1 along with alteration of the cellcycle with a significant increase of cells in the G2/M stage.6 This report is in line with observations fromdifferent groups indicating an overexpression of KAT8 in different cancer types in which it seems to play an oncogenicrole.
