LEP and ovarian cancer: Uddin et al. (2009) examined the effects of leptin on the proliferation of MDAH-2774 cell lines and found that leptin had stimulating effects. In other in vitro studies, leptin has been shown to increase the viability of BG-1 ovarian cancer cells and inhibit apoptosis in SKOV-3 and MDAH-2774 ovarian cancer cells (Choi, Lee & Leung, 2011). In the study by Choi et al. (2005), it was determined that 1 and 10 ng/ml doses of leptin had no effect on the proliferation of BG-1 cells, which is the human ovarian cancer cell line, and 100 and 1,000 ng/mL doses increased proliferation.
