Interestingly, the increased density in GABAergic PV+ and ChAT+ interneurons observed in TgRln mice presumably intensifies the inhibitory input onto striatal MSNs, reducing in turn the excitability in the striatal circuitry and perhaps counteracting in part the excitatory/inhibitory imbalance typically found in schizophrenia.
