Carles Díez-López conducted genome-wide and TaqMan® low-density array analyses and determined low SIRT7 and mitochondrial ferritin levels in patients with chronic heart failure and systemic iron deficiency; they also demonstrated that low-to-moderate levels of SIRT7 and mitochondrial ferritin were associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality and admission to hospital with heart failure (Diez-Lopez et al., 2021). The gene discussed is SIRT7; the disease is congestive heart failure.
