Increased BMI and obesity are strongly associated with changes in the physiological function of adipose tissue, leading to enhanced secretion of adipocytokines and inflammatory factors including leptin, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), MCP-1, resistin [8], and hs-CRP [9]. Here, TNF is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
