Since low lung function in those with BPD was associated with lower desmosome proteins, we assessed the interaction of BPD and low lung function: the results showed that the reduced abundance of DSG1, DSC1 and JUP was significantly or near significantly associated with those with BPD and PTlow (β−0.35, p = 0.012; β−0.30, p = 0.06, β−0.30, p = 0.01 respectively) but not in the BPD group who had normal lung function (Table 3). This evidence concerns the gene DSG1 and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
