In scrub typhus patients, proinflammatory cytokine and chemokine responses are characterized by upregulation of IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12p40, CXCL10, MCP-1, and MIP-1β, but downregulation of Th2-associated cytokines and chemokines [9–12]. Here, CXCL8 is linked to scrub typhus.
