In these studies, the relevance of the gene in human disease is first demonstrated by UALCAN analysis of a particular cancer type (e.g., showing higher expression in cancer versus normal, or specific cancer sub-class pattern such as ERG gene fusion specific over-expression of FZD8 in prostate cancer [70]), followed by validation and a demonstration of the functional role of that gene in cancer cell models.
