Because low levels of MBL seem to influence the production of proinflammatory cytokines, especially IL-6 and TNF-α (16–19), the present study evaluated the levels of these cytokines in patients in the acute phase of COVID-19 and observed that patients with the severe form of the disease who had lower levels of MBL had higher levels of IL-6 and TNF-α, with a slight negative correlation between MBL and IL-6 levels and a positive correlation between IL-6 and TNF-α levels. Here, MBL2 is linked to COVID-19.
