MKI67 and cancer: Increased levels of Ki-67 are associated with cell proliferationas it becomes localized to the nucleus during cell division whereit organizes heterochromatin.15 In contrast,a decrease in Ki-67, such as the one observed in this study, is associatedwith a reduction in cell proliferation and slower cell division.16 However, it should be noted that Ki-67 expressionhas mostly been studied in regard to cancer,17 and cells depleted of Ki-67 are still able to proliferate, albeitat a slower rate.18
