A recent study of the peripheral blood of glaucoma patients performed by Yang et al. reveals that patients of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and normal tension glaucoma (NTG) with exhibited a significant increase in CD3+/CD8+ T-lymphocytes and the soluble interleukin-2 receptor, a marker for T lymphocyte activation (Yang et al., 2001). The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is low tension glaucoma.
