The work of Adamus et al. (Xiong et al., 2013) on the RCS rats, whose retinal dystrophy is due to a mutation in the Mertk gene, has clearly shown how AR-AAbs [directed against arrestin and interphotoreceptor binding protein (IRBP)] develop early in the course of the RCS rat disease. The gene discussed is SAG; the disease is inherited retinal dystrophy.
