The exact mechanisms of miscarriage in endometriosis remains unclear but the association of endometriosis with a highly inflammatory (e.g., increased NK cells and proinflammatory cytokines) and pro-angiogenic (e.g., PIGF) microenvironment has been demonstrated in peritoneal fluid of endometriosis patients (Kolanska et al., 2021) and could impact the pregnancy beyond the first steps of implantation. Here, PIGF is linked to endometriosis.
