In the DAPA‐CKD (Dapagliflozin and Prevention of Adverse outcomes in Chronic Kidney Disease)) trial, the sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 (SGLT2) inhibitor dapagliflozin reduced the risk of major kidney and cardiovascular events and prolonged survival in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), with and without type 2 diabetes.1 This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
