The chemokine CCL3 (also known as macrophage inhibitory protein α [MIP-1α]), produced in BM by basophilic myeloid progenitors (Baba et al., 2016), acts to inhibit the proliferation and self-renewal of normal HSC (Broxmeyer et al., 1989; Staversky et al., 2018), but CML HSC are relatively resistant to its action (Eaves et al., 1993, Baba et al., 2013). Here, CCL3 is linked to chronic myelogenous leukemia, BCR-ABL1 positive.
