In studies of human infection, Blom et al., found that CD8+ effector T cells transitioned from an effector T (Teff) cell phenotype (Eomes+Ki67+T-bet+) to that of a T central memory phenotype (TCM) (Eomes-Ki67-T-bet+) in the period between 21 and 90 days following hospitalization, consistent with the resolution of infection and contraction of the CD8+ T cell response [52]. This evidence concerns the gene MKI67 and infection.
