Consistent with SARS-CoV-2 infection of human airway epithelial cells, we observe a rapid proinflammatory response during the early stages (24 h) of infection characterized by an increased expression of multiple cytokines and chemokines (e.g., CCL20, IL-6, CXCL8 and CXCL10). The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is infection.
