In the case of HPV-negative cervical carcinoma, HPV-negative tumors are characterized by distinct molecular profiles and lower proliferative abilities, p53 immunostaining, decreased expression of p16, p27 and p14 and alterations in PTEN, p53, KRAS, CTNNB1, ARID1A and ARID5B along with lower expression of inflammatory associated genes which explain their poor response rate to checkpoint inhibitor-based immunotherapy such as PD1/PD-L1 inhibitors [30].
