To note, we also found a significant and large decrease in the adenylate cyclase encoding genes Adcy5 and Adcy7 in female hearts, which are known to contribute to protection from DCM [75,76], strongly suggesting that acidosis can change gene expression in the heart tissue, leading to the onset of dilated cardiomyopathy. Here, ADCY5 is linked to familial dilated cardiomyopathy.
