As distinct immune components present a differentiating characteristic of both lipedema and lymphedema while the immune phenotype of lipohypertrophy is still vague, we next assessed the immune cell composition using tissue sections and gene expression analysis to quantify the presence of CD45+ cells (leukocytes), CD4+ cells (T helper cells), CD68+ cells (Macrophages) and CD163+ cells (M2-Macrophages) (Figure 4A–D).
