STING1 and bacterial infectious disease: Of note, bacterial CDN, 3′3′ cGAMP, is also detected by STING; however, it can only form a weak interaction with STING in the binding site, suggesting lower effectiveness in the activation of STING with respect to the interaction with the 2′3′ cGAMP, indicating that STING is not the major detector of bacterial infection, but is still involved in building the innate immune response against bacteria too [43,58,59].
