HMGB1 and autoimmune disease: Due to its pro-inflammatory and immunostimulatory properties, HMGB1 is widely known to contribute to the pathogenesis of several chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, such as sepsis, lung conditions, autoimmune diseases, acute liver injury, cardiac injury, neuroinflammation and other inflammation-driven conditions [11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19].
