Monahan et al. [31] observed that patients with chronic SCI exhibited elevated frequencies of CD4+ Tregs, particularly in the CD25+ CD127loCCR4+, CD25+ CD127loHLA-DR+, and CD25+ CD127loCCR4+ HLA-DR+ populations, and hypothesized that these changes might be relevant in explaining the infection susceptibility among this population as well as other manifestations of immunosuppression and immune system dysfunction.
