A possible relationship between CFTR and COVID-19 has been suggested by the surprising observation that CF patients (who produce low or altered levels of functionally deficient CFTR) are significantly protected against infection by SARS-CoV-2 [54], supporting the hypothesis of a possible role of CFTR inhibitors (such as pre-miR-145-5p) on the spread of COVID-19. This evidence concerns the gene CFTR and COVID-19.
