In 2016, Gilan et al proposed that DOT1L‐mediated H3K79me2 leads to a more open chromatin which facilitates the recruitment of the histone acetyltransferase P300 which, in turn, increases histone H4 acetylation (in particular, H4K5ac), in a cell model of acute myeloid leukemia (Gilan et al, 2016). The gene discussed is EP300; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
