It is well known that IL‐1β is an important inflammatory mediator.[14a] Recently, the role of IL‐1β in solid tumors has gradually been uncovered.[16, 29] IL‐1β was reported to be upregulated in multiple types of solid tumors,[30] and found to stimulate WNT signaling and growth of colon cancer cells,[29g] to promote NSCLC by repressing miR‐101 expression through the COX2 / HIF1α pathway,[29a] to enhance gastric cancer invasion through NF‐κB activation[16, 29] and to induce the expression of MMP8 in ovarian cancer cells.[29f] These works mainly focus on the effect of IL‐1β on tumor cells. The gene discussed is IL1B; the disease is colonic neoplasm.
