As a result, gene enrichment of MAIT cell transcriptomes in BCG stimulation demonstrated a similar upregulation in activated conventional memory CD8+ T cells with intracellular bacterial infection and in PBMCs from infants at ten weeks after BCG vaccination at birth, or a similar downregulation in PBMCs of patients with sepsis, but reversely altered in bystander activated CD4+ T cells independent of antigen-presentation (Figure 4A).
