While in preeclampsia, although maternal plasma and urine levels of NGAL and KIM-1 reduced at 6–8 weeks postpartum compared to those of antenatal levels, NGAL and KIM-1 levels were still much higher than the levels in normotensive controls, which suggests that kidney injury may not be resolved within 2–3 months after delivery in preeclampsia. The gene discussed is HAVCR1; the disease is preeclampsia.
