ABCG2 and hyperuricemia: Indeed, individuals of Asian ancestry have a higher prevalence of SLC2A9, ABCG2, and other urate risk variants,16,50 which are key contributors to hyperuricemia and gout.51 Although genetic liability among Asian individuals could not have changed over 8 years or contributed to the increasing trend or created the ecological differences between Asian and Western countries, gene-environmental interactions (including unmeasured factors) could play a substantial role among genetically susceptible Asian populations.
