Although further studies, including the use of in vivo models, are needed to fully describe the mechanisms by which SNPs on the LI-cadherin gene increase the risk of lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer, our study highlighted the contribution of cell–cell adhesion molecules to the complex interaction network of cancer metastasis, suggesting that molecules targeting cell–cell adhesion proteins may have the potential to inhibit cancer metastasis. This evidence concerns the gene CDH17 and colorectal cancer.
