Given that we showed ESX-1 activity contributes to presentation of Mtb antigens in infection with virulent Mtb H37Rv, the fact that BCG and Mtb H37Ra are both deficient in ESX-1 activity (Frigui et al., 2008; Gordon et al., 1999; Guinn et al., 2004; Lewis et al., 2003; Pym et al., 2002) may in part explain this difference in the mycobacterial peptides presented on MHC-I.
