Bufill et al (1990) were the first to describe CRC based on the anatomical site, in an attempt to sub-classify CRC.6 Right-sided CRC is associated with female gender, old age, BRAF mutations, and microsatellite instability, while left-sided CRC is associated with male gender, younger patients, and chromosomal instability. This evidence concerns the gene BRAF and colorectal carcinoma.
