CGAS and infection: Dengue virus is a single positive-stranded RNA virus whose infection generates an endogenous source of cytoplasmic DNA through the release of mtDNA, which drives cGAS to produce cGAMP, with the latter subsequently binding and activating STING, which in return activate the NF-κB and IRF3 pathways and trigger an innate immune antiviral response (Ha et al., 2011; Aguirre et al., 2017; Sun et al., 2017).
