While there have been many studies on coding variant determinants of IBD, considerably less attention has been attributed to the study of non-coding variants in IBD (and complex human diseases in general).59 In the present study, we found an IBD-associated lncRNA, CARINH, and showed that CARINH maintains intestinal homeostasis by interacting with the gut microbiota and protecting the host against colitis through the expression of the anti-inflammatory factor IL-18BP. This evidence concerns the gene IL18BP and inflammatory bowel disease.
