FGF2 and diabetic foot: During wound healing, MSCs become activated, are recruited to the wound, and differentiate into fibroblasts.40 For example, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)41 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)42 can promote wound healing in patients with diabetic foot ulcers, whereby PDGF and VEGF act as chemoattractants for MSCs.43 The meta-analysis revealed that bFGF significantly promotes ADSC differentiation into fibroblasts.
